Staying Healthy: Medical and Dental Concerns

Keeping a healthy body and healthy teeth depends on healthy food, being able to go to a medical clinic when you are sick, and caring for your teeth and gums every day. When you are living on the streets and you don’t have any money, this is harder to do, but there are places and people who will help you. Call Y.E.S. at 509-671-7293 and someone will help without hassling you. The people at Y.E.S. want only for you to be healthy, happy and safe, and they know how to get you the help you need.

If you need to see a doctor the people at Y.E.S. will take you to the Newport Medical Clinic. If you have been enrolled in the State Medical programs, then medical coupons will be used for payment. (Medicaid is a program funded by the federal and state governments, which pays for medical care for those who can’t afford it.)

If you haven’t been enrolled for medical coupons, the clinic will still see you and wait to bill until the paperwork is sent in to receive medical coupons. The people at Y.E.S. will take you to the Newport DSHS (Department of Social and Health Services) office to complete the application for medical coupons and will help you fill out the paperwork. If the doctor or nurse practitioner writes a prescription for medication for you, the people at Y.E.S. will take you to the pharmacy to get the medicine. The pharmacist will explain how to take the medication, and they will take medical coupons for payment.

To get the help you deserve you need to be open to trust the people at Y.E.S. When you trust them, help is available and you don’ have to try to figure out everything alone.

The most helpful activity you can do to prevent dental cavities is to floss your teeth every day. You can do this no matter where you are. Y.E.S. will provide you will dental floss and a tooth brush and toothpaste. Brushing after meals is the best. Brushing morning and night is the second best. Preventing dental cavities and gum disease is so much easier than having the pain of dental cavities and infections. If you need to see a dentist, the people at Y.E.S. will find a dentist that accepts medical coupons and go with you when you have your appointment.
